Give Me a Break

You know it has been a long hot summer when your county is designated by the weather folks to be in a severe drought as our county was during the month of July.  The lawns have gone brown, the tulip trees are shedding  leaves that fall like big yellow butterflies and they have being doing that for weeks.  The chickadees and titmice fight over the bird bath, and I only go outside in the early morning or late afternoon to survey my room without walls.

But you really understand that concept of a long hot summer when the evening arrives and it looks like this and you get excited!  And yes,  it was followed by the most cooling rain.

Ahhh that sounds dreadfully familiar to our February over here. Except it doesnt cool down at any part of the day and the rains NEVER come.
Stay as cool as you can my friend.

  7. Well yes, except that parts of the country were designated drought areas not long after being flooded. And still now, after weeks of rain they have hose pipe bans in place.

  8. Sounds hotter than Miami, but it still sounds like a beautiful room without walls. Tulips, chickadees and bird baths...I can only imagine it.

Enjoy the cooling rain and your lovely surroundings, Chica! Fall is right around the corner.

  9. We had a real downpour late yesterday afternoon. Between .5 and .75 inches in the rain gauge and the temperature dropped 20 degrees. [big sigh of relief]

The days are shortening so fast now - autumn will be here soon.

  12. Good Morning Friend... We FINALLY got some relief here... It's been rainy for a couple of days --and we needed it SO much... We got about 2 inches --so I'm a happy camper.. NOW--I am waiting for the temps to go back down to NORMAL... ha

You asked about biking at the James River Canal. NO--not allowed. The concrete walkway across the river stops on the other side of the river --and you have to walk about 25 (or more) steps down to get to the ground. They even have a sign saying no bicycles on the walkway across the river.

It is a nice area --and there were TONS of bikers on the Parkway itself... Go for it...

    Hugs,
    Betsy

  13. We've had a dry summer in New York too but not drought conditions. In fact it's raining right now but it will be over soon. Speaking of brown grass - did anyone see on tv the latest craze in lawn care? People are paying to have their brown grass dyed green!
