Europe has little that is wild and untrammeled over the centuries of civilization and wars. They eat EVERYTHING over there, so many animals do not have much of a chance except in remote protected lands. In the city the birds have adapted to humans and no longer seem to fear them, but maybe they just tolerate us. I was able to get some closer photos in the city parks because the wild birds are somewhat "tame" birds and many have learned to beg for food.
I never get tired of watching the herons. There's a big rookery right outside of town here.
ReplyDeleteThe small park near where I live has signs about
ReplyDeletenot feeding the wildlife but I don't think visitors obey.
The squirrels come right up to me when I visit.
Of course they eat everything. Every bird was a meal during WWII. Any other critter expanded their diet too. I know horsemeat was available here but mother bought mutton.
ReplyDeleteIt's fun to watch the water birds, except when they become aggressive for food. That's why i keep my distance to watch.
ReplyDeletethere's something very elegant about herons and I'm working on a blue heron piece. I guess those birds are being lulled into complacency. probably not good if the humans get hungry again.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful photos. Love the first photo especially.
ReplyDeleteSome things have become used to the city here...Canada geese, mule deer
ReplyDeleteI have never thought of a lack of wild things in Europe. Interesting.
ReplyDeleteAppreciate your photos. I hadn't thought of wild things absence in Europe either. Always like to see them comfortable in the midst of human life. Can be dangerous for them if they become too trusting of people. Unfortunately that's what happened to a number of ducks we used to enjoy in an area near here.
ReplyDeleteThe coots are cute beside the swans. Nice photos
ReplyDeleteBirds around here are still fairly wild. Sparrows can be a headache to try and take pictures of close up.
As always you got some great photos.
