This Time of Year

The dogwoods are the first to show their color.

The last party guests to leave are hanging on through the cooler nights and warm days. The cosmos draw many pollinators in the fall.  The big "flutterbyes" are mostly gone with just the little ones and the skippers drinking at the zinnia blossoms. The zinnias are crazy in abundance this year.

The asters below are the most prolific as this is their season.

  1. There's a puffy yellow flower along roadsides this year that are more abundant than I recall. I'd rather see zinnias.

  3. We still have a few day lilies too, mostly the smaller yellow ones. My potted petunias have gone into a last ditch bloom recently. Hoorah!

  4. When i go to Mr. BA's house to work in the garden, i love to watch the butterflies and bees. Last time, i saw at least three varieties of butterflies, honey bees and bumble bees, and wasps, all kissing the flowers.

  5. With the most recent rain, the weather has turned colder, 40's at night, a high of 60. Flowers here will be shutting down, and the foliage color show will begin to light up. I do like "this time of year".
