House Wren, Troglodytes aedon |
This one above is building a nest in the former blue bird house from last summer. The bluebirds spent most of cold spring darting in and out of this jar, but never began a nest. The wrens took advantage of the empty space over a week ago and then declared it home. She is not shy in moving in larger decorative items.
This house is just outside my bedroom window and this is the time of year that I leave the windows open to take advantage of the comfortable fresh air. She or he is very noisy...very early!!
Tabor, is this a Carolina wren? Lovely photos, and yes, they ARE pesky critters at times.
ReplyDeleteCute little guys and very noisy. I have some nesting in a tall shrub outside my kitchen window but I can hear them in the morning anyway.
ReplyDeleteI love how you capture the details of their lives.
ReplyDeleteI would not have a problem with the bird noises. We awaken to rooster crowing starting at 4 AM, immediately followed by guinea fowl talking in their most irritable voices. I love the sounds that drive our visitors crazy. They are better noises to me than the city traffic sounds and horns honking and sirens blaring.
ReplyDeleteOh, yes. the wrens are very noisy! they love our garage too. built a nest in the rag bag hanging on a nail in the wall, built a nest on top of the dysfunctional automatic garage door opener motor housing. and they are always exploring the shelves and everything on them.
ReplyDeletehaha...oh my...ruining the fresh air...and early in the morning...not a good mix at all...smiles...
ReplyDeleteWrens fill anything in the area that they are going to nest in. It's there way of stopping somebody else from setting up house in their territory.

ReplyDeleteThey may be dull witted and noisy..but they sure are pretty!!

Enjoy

I have a pair nesting in a decorative birdhouse hanging in the lilac that grows at my doorstep. I get scolded roundly every time I go in or out. It's the first time I've seen this bird - I always wondered which sort made that bell shaking sound. Now I know!
ReplyDeleteCongrats on a well deserved POTW!
ReplyDeleteNice capture! Sometimes i wish the birds didn't make for such an early alarm clock.
ReplyDeleteadorable little sprites! we have a pair that try to nest in our dog pooper scooper hung in the shed.
ReplyDeletecongrats on your POTW!
They are so cute! I'll trade you those for the little mice who keep trying to adopt us!
