Patience
The nights are cool but by afternoon an Indian summer warmth returns for a few hours. I have left everything weedy and untrimmed because new studies show that an abundance of insects that overwinter is good for your garden and good for the birds(!). Actually, a laziness in the bones has kept me from kneeling and weeding and cutting over an altruistic agenda. The mums are in bloom and while a bit shaggy from nights of rain, still trying to shine forth with their fall fashion show. The droop of the mums below is not the well-trained Japanese arching. Just my version of neglect.
And the cold nights have not removed or put to sleep the six-legged visitors that wait patiently for winter.

I don't usually clear out my beds from fall and winter until spring though I will cut back the spent ginger stalks.
ReplyDeleteMaybe today I get a little clean up done on my little patio garden, maybe :-)
ReplyDeleteLovely photos.
ReplyDeleteI cleared up the frost drooping plants, but left the Dusty Miller and marigolds.
Patience a must for any gardener. That is why I am not a gardener.
ReplyDeleteKneeling and weeding and cutting - something I am doing in a much more limited fashion these days. However, since we are having sunny afternoons, I have been going out for an hour or so to do a bit of it. It's good for my soul even if not for my body.
ReplyDeleteWe don't have leaves to rake or much snow (usually, i hope we get none this year), so this may sound like a silly question, but why aren't the leaves left to give a layer of protection to the grass when the snow comes? To me that's not lazy, that's smart.
ReplyDeleteAnd why do the comments sometimes come up with my google+ account, and sometimes as unknown?

Not sure about Google+ as it is no longer supported. So I try to login another way and no longer use that ID. I have changed my Blog to not accept Google+ accounts since the software no longer works or is supported. Many people want 'clean' lawns and therefore remove all theleaves.
DeleteMy patience has been gone a long time. It was minus 15 C this morning! Good to see that you have some flowers still hanging on.
ReplyDeleteYou are blossoming right along with the lettuce and trash bin. G actually turned on the heater this morning....bu noon it will be 80.
ReplyDeleteI saw a few worms when I dug in the garden yesterday. That’s all that’s left around here.
ReplyDeletePrecious flowers, and the Grasshopper, beautiful.
