Tree Fruit
I have several persimmon trees. Because they are still young we sometimes get great fruit in the late fall yet sometimes the cold weather comes too early, sometimes the crows and raccoons discover our harvest before us. But the colors this year are more than enough reward.
I've never eaten a persimmons, or seen them sold in supermarkets, must be a difficult money crop. I read they are very sweet.

ReplyDeleteLovely trees. Properly ripened persimmons are a delight. Unripe, well, if the critters are taking them before they are ripe, they deserve what they get!
ReplyDeletemy neighbor has two native persimmon trees. the fruit is much smaller. I don't really care for persimmons, i don't mind one or two a season, but somehow Frank got the idea I liked them. He would bring over a pan full every week while they were bearing fruit. I didn't like to refuse my elderly neighbor's gift so I just accepted them, said thank you, and put them in the compost pile. Frank died earlier this year.
