Bonnet Head

I posted this photo (in a higher resolution) on RedBubble in my portfolio because I was fascinated with the colors, texture and shapes that I was able to capture with very little post production work.  Flowers blossoms go so fast.  They last only a few days and if you are busy you fail to see the bud, the opening, the blossom and the fade.  This poppy's seed pod, on the other hand, is just as lovely in its futuristic beauty as it was in its full orange petal brilliance a few days earlier.

Don't you think?

If you saw these as created objects in someone's art portfolio they would hardly look out of place.

those are amazing colors for a flower pod - and it's a stunning photo! what's the name of the poppy? i'd love to find some, just to look forward to that pod!

Chris, I do not remember the name of the poppy, but it is a traditional poppy. I planted 5 plants and each year one does not return. I now have only two plants, perhaps too wet in my yard. Not all of the pods produce such lovely color and it only lasts a day or two before going browner.

Is it just me or does it seem I've missed the colors in nature most of my life. The aqua and purple - gorgeous.

beautiful - I love poppies but have never been able to grow any.
Throw out the seeds but they never come up.
Then I wonder since I am always weeding with my hoe - maybe I think they are a weed....

WOW. What gorgeous shots!!!! Absolutely awesome. I love them both I can't even pick a favorite. And I never would have guessed that bud would be a bright orange flower. Just beautiful!

The seed pod is almost more interesting than the actual poppy: beautiful.

That's absolutely beautiful. I've never seen anything like that top image. It seems to belong in a cartoon meadow.
