Lanterns

"Physalis alkekengi (Bladder cherry, Chinese lantern, Japanese lantern, or Winter cherry; Japanese: hōzuki), related to the Cape Gooseberry" according to Wikipedia. I had never grown these before and this is what I got in a very sparse production from seeds I planted months ago.  My bugs LOVE it.

Then this is what I came across in Nuremburg, Germany at a flower stall!

Bright autumn lanterns
To light my fall garden path
A glow so warm
It holds back the cool evening mist
And makes me pause
And smile.

  5. I guess some of these things weren't made for us. They are very colorful and I understand why you would like to grow them.

  6. Oh, I had forgotten about those lanterns. My mother used to have some back on the farm, in the way-back days. I have never seen them in a flower market. Lovely!

  8. One look at them and I immediately wanted to paint a still life. You may have returned me to paint! Either way: thanks!
