Retreats to Sooth the Soul

Cities must share their noise, space and murky air with the thousands or millions of people that stay there.  Budapest, Hungary is no exception.  But just like New York, Paris, or Tokyo, citizens, tourists and lovers often retreat to the open green spaces that are sprinkled here and there for restoring the soul.  People in Hungary love the shade of the big old sycamore trees, love the botanical displays, pause to admire the plants that trail over and across old buildings and play with the "wildlife" when the weekend holiday allows.  It is so easy to relax and pretend there is no war torn history to this area.

  1. Wow! Beautiful.
I love how the trees seemingly come up right through the cement.

  3. Pushed the button too soon. I was also going to say I loved seeing people feeding the birds with their children same as I did only half way around the world. The war there was a shock, made me see what it would look like if that happened in my city. Disconcerting, may they be spared that in the future.

  5. We may be "civilized" and live in our concrete worlds, but our souls betray us, and crave the woods.

  6. I'm sure we have Sycamores in the Midwest too... some place, but never noticed them. Then this year, on our trips to China and the National parks in the Canyons area we saw amazing Sycamores everywhere. Now I'll be keeping my eyes open for them when we visit the Midwest again. They are truly beautiful trees with interesting fruit (nuts?).

  8. A forest on pavement - Cool! :)
The trees are majestic; I can definitely see how your camera (eye) guided you there; and to all the other photos, too.
