Next Year...

I say in my mind that "I will get to that next year" and then realize with a blunt insight that I do not have that many "next years" left.  Each year may be a "last time" to set something right or correct a wrong or indulge a dream or attempt a hard-to-reach goal.  Each year is always more precious than the last one.  Each year is just a row of stitches in a large tapestry on which the distant prior edges are becoming more and more frayed and more faded in color.  Age and passage of time does have a way of bringing us up short, does it not?

  6. First thing this morning I heard on the news its 2017 in New Zealand. In a couple of minutes if I type this fast enough, it will be 2017 in Iran. Tomorrow morning at 7 AM it will be (somewhere in the Pacific Ocean), I think, 2017 for the entire World. If Peace could be so punctual, then the World will have something extraordinary to celebrate.

    Happy New Year!

  7. The older we get the more tempted we are to dwell in the past, but all the more important is is to live in the present. May each day be a gift.

  10. reflecting on this last night. trying to determine how many ears I have left. some of my family died in their 70s, others not until their 90s and still getting around. with that in mind I'm hoping for another 25. could only be 10 though. now is the time to do or give up the hope.

  11. In the olden days when life was far more precarious than it is now, people used to sometimes keep a skull or bones by them to remind them that life was short. It reminded them to act in the way they felt was best, and that's not a bad maxim.

  12. Yes, but just the bottom of mine is faded and fuzZy. The top is still crisp and defined. Happy upcoming year. May you find some amusing passion to keep you moving through the cold days. Hugs.

  13. What a beautiful image you made! Yep life is always shorter than we think - I always feel my time is about up too, n still I have so much I want to do !
I hope if it may be the last it may also be the best, n not regretted at all !

  14. I, too, find myself thinking as though I'll be here forever on one level, but on another level is the realistic recognition my time is much shorter.
